Even in a crowded jazz field in San Diego, the Zzymzzy Quartet stands out. Appearing at the Pacific Beach/Taylor Branch Library on April 11, the combo plays unamplified instrumental music from roughly 1920 to World War II and a few like-styled originals. Based around the guitar playing of Beston Barnett and superb accompaniment from guitarist Pete Miesner, clarinetist Matt Gill and bassist Paul Hormick, the quartet has an encyclopedic knowledge of vintage tunes. While anyone who enjoys up-tempo music or virtuoso fretwork will find much to their liking, fans of legendary gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt in particular will love this performance. • Zzymzzy Quartet: 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11 at the Pacific Beach/Taylor Branch Library, 4275 Cass St. All ages.
