To celebrate both the art of the book and the 40th anniversary of the Geisel Library at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), San Diego Book Arts (SDBA) and the UCSD Mandeville Special Collections Library will hold a Book Arts Faire on Sunday, May 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served while visitors witness demonstrations of letterpress typesetting and printing, leather bookbinding techniques and learn about unique book structures, like Jacob’s ladder, flag book, mica and origami. Miniature books, altered and sculptural books and artists books will be on display, as well as books from local presses. The Faire will also include a silent auction and raffle, with prizes ranging from art and book works to restaurant dinners and a vacation condo stay. All proceeds will benefit SDBA community education programs. The free event will take place in the Seuss Room of the Geisel Library, located at 9500 Gilman Drive. Information is available at www.ucsdnews. ucsd.edu or [email protected].
