Art lovers can see masterpieces come to life at the San Diego Museum of Art in Balboa Park this summer. Every Thursday until September 2, patrons of the arts can get hands-on experience with local artists during the Summer Salon Series.
Inspired by Toulouse-Lautrec and his participation in the Salon des Independants, SDMA will transform into a participatory salon highlighting different contemporary performance artists. As a place for intellectuals, creators and those interested in art to interact, guests are given the opportunity to connect with the works of art that are on display.
The theme of the July 15 salon will be “Heroes of Hip Hop,” featuring the North Park Agitprop artist group Collective Purpose. From 5-9:00 p.m., hip-hop fans can meet the artists and enjoy drinks from Giuseppe’s bar. Guests will also get the chance to create a large-scale mural on the walls of a museum gallery with the artists of WriterzBlok—a community of artists focused on alternative art and hip hop culture.
