San Diego Fire-Rescue crews responded to a fire in a three-story duplex on the 800 block of Dover Court in Mission Beach on the afternoon of Sept. 30. The fire, caused by a battery charger for a remote control car housed in the first-floor garage, took firefighters three hours to get under control. The second story was burned away in the blaze that caused $1 million worth of damage to the structure and $500,000 in damage to the contents of the building, said Maurice Luque, spokesman for the Fire-Rescue Department. No one was hurt and no other nearby buildings were damaged, though the roof of one small house next door to the duplex had started to smolder before crews were able to protect the home. Seven residents were displaced as a result of the fire.
