Torrey Pines Elementary School kindergarten student Natalia Tucker is the statewide winner for the State of California Department of Boating and Waterways poster contest. She will be honored during an assembly on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at the school.
Natalia’s poster, titled “Swim With a Friend,” is an overall winner in the kindergarten category for this year’s contest. Torrey Pines Elementary School students also fill out a number of the finalists for this year.
The Department of Boating and Waterways will present the winners with prizes during the assembly, when representatives will also teach students proper safety procedures for the water.
The assembly, which begins at 10:30 a.m., will feature either a boating safety puppet show or game show and will last between 30 and 40 minutes.
The public is invited to participate, said Mari Chavez of the California Department of Boating and Waterways.
Pictures of the winning posters are featured on the DBW website, www.boatsmarter.com, and will be displayed during National Safe Boating Week (May 17-23) at the state capitol.
To attend the assembly, RSVP to Erica Savage, (858) 453-2323, ext. 101.
