McMillan says hats off for speedy city
Last week within what seemed like minutes, but in reality was less than 36 hours, Mo Sammak and Rich Haas were on the scene to remedy a huge problem facing one of OliverMcMillan’s downtown projects.
To take it a step further, we were going into a Holiday weekend and Padre Game with the extra traffic accompanying both. But, that didn’t halter their immediate attention and fix with city workers on the job.
More than one-foot of air space void was discovered under G Street between 10th and 11th Avenues.
The city promptly dug up the street, refilled and compacted half a block and paved the street by 3pm the next day.
DPR Construction the contractor on our G Street project say’s “Thank you, your assistance brought this to a much quicker resolution than we would ever have thought possible to achieve”.

Downtown fortunate to have Faulconer
On Tuesday, March 13th, my husband and I had the pleasure of attending Councilmember Kevin Faulconer’s State of the District address at the Catamaran Resort in Pacific Beach.
Much to our surprise it was quite a lively event. As we entered the room, the local High School Band was performing. They put a smile on everyone’s face.
We finally settled down and were seated and Kevin got down to business.
Numerous dignitaries were there: Mayor Jerry Sanders; Jay Goldstone; Police Chief Landsdowne, Fire Chief Tracey Jarrett, Independent Budget Analyst Andrea Tevlin and more.
It was a tough night for Kevin, as he was recovering from back surgery just a few days before.
He looked a little pale, but stood proud and smiled as he presented us with his accomplishments, the promises he’s kept, and those he’s still working on: his plans for the future.
As Downtown residents, we were thankful that the Quiet Zone remained a high priority for Council District #2.
Kevin hoped that within a year those living along the rail lines (and even those many blocks away) would finally be able to get a good night’s sleep.
We were thrilled that Kevin is keeping a watchful eye on the progress of parks Downtown, a promise he made and has kept with the adoption of the Downtown Community Plan.
Just a few months ago we attended the groundbreaking for the first of 8 new parks that have been promised: “Tweet Street Park” on Cortez Hill.
Construction has begun and Cortez Hill will have its park completed by early fall of ’07. CCDC’s plan is to add one new park each year.
Naturally, Kevin touched on projects and improvements in each area of his district.
Everyone applauded loudly as he laid them out, a sure sign that everyone was pleased.
There was even a standing ovation at the end of his address.
We, Downtown, feel fortunate to call Kevin our Councilmember and look forward to more great plans and projects under his leadership.

Councilman Faulconer: eliminate beach drinking
Councilman Faulconer, you have done some great things for us, the people, as mentioned in the State of the District address article, (“Faulconer looks at the good and bad in District 2 address,” Beach & Bay Press, March 15).
You have one more very important item to accomplish. We urge you to join us in our attempt to stop the use and abuse of alcohol on our beaches.
Please continue to help us via this much needed regulation. Most beaches in the state of California have benefited tremendously by this action.
The children, the parents, police and lifeguards are counting on you.
