More reasoned approach needed for airport growth and development
So much for community concern and the Brown Act.
Apparently acting upon a preplanned scenario, the new Peninsula Community Planning Board (PCPB) unceremoniously dismissed Lance Murphy, the chairman of the PCPB’s Airport Committee. Mr. Murphy, an engineer, is considered to be the most experienced and knowledgeable person on the airport operations and expansion.
Whatever is one’s position or view on Lindbergh Field expansion plans, the community needs an unbiased honest discussion based on all the facts. We do not want a one-sided Airport Authority view concerned only with the traveling public convenience, with no concern for, or mitigation of impacts, on thousands of San Diego residents.
Whether through design or ignorance, the board has essentially endorsed [the Airport Authority’s] expansion plan which includes a 5-story parking structure, increased noise and air pollution, and, eventually a second runway.
Let’s all reason together and reflect upon this major impact on our community.

Right to Repair ensures reliability of car care
RetireSafe has declared its support of the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act (HR 2694) and strongly urges Congress to pass the legislation on behalf of older Americans throughout the country.
Many older Americans live on a fixed income, and Right to Repair ensures that they can continue to enjoy the affordability and convenience of having their vehicle serviced at the repair shop of their choice.
As vehicles are becoming increasingly sophisticated with virtually every system either monitored or controlled by computers, access to accurate repair information is essential to the safety and well-being of all motorists. The Right to Repair Act was introduced in Congress to ensure that car owners and their trusted repair shops have the same access to safety alerts and repair information as the franchised new car dealer network.
The fact is that many older Americans rely on trusted neighborhood repair shops to keep their vehicles serviced, repaired and operating safely. Their independence may be severely compromised if they are forced back to the dealer for service and repairs, particularly if there is no dealership in their area.
Please, and by all means, visit www.righttorepair.org to send a letter to each of your congressional representatives, urging them to support the Right to Repair Act by adding their names to the list of sponsors.

Street person shows care, goodwill to stranger
On Monday, April 14, my little dog and I had an argument about where we were walking and I tripped over him, falling to the sidewalk.
I was not seriously injured, but the street person walking by with his full cart stopped to check on me, then stopped a passing police car to have the officer check on me. He then took off after my dog, who was running fast down the sidewalk, caught him almost a block away and returned him to me.
He could have just continued walking and minding his own business, but he was considerate and kind, and I sincerely thank him.
The next time you see a street person, remember that they are people too, with feelings, and deserve our help.
