Just plain cruel
The letters in last week’s La Jolla Village News concerning the premature birth and subsequent death of a harbor seal pup (possibly) resulting from human harassment were heartbreaking (“Tragedy on Christmas Eve,” “Human harassment not to blame,” page 8). Whether or not the premature birth was the result of human interference or was a common natural occurrence in the harbor seal population, the fact remains that human harassment of these seals, pregnant or not, causes undue anxiety and stress, resulting in panic and a hasty retreat in fright. Harassment of these harbor seals is just plain cruel. The rope protecting these seals tells a story; please listen to it.

City shouldn’t worry about OC toll road
I’m baffled as to why Belinda Smith of Hillcrest thinks the San Diego City Council should be involving themselves in other cities’ issues (Letter to the Editor, “Baffled,” Village News, Dec. 28, page 8). We have enough problems right here in our financially troubled town. Our City Council did the right thing by not supporting legislation outside of its jurisdiction.
By the way, Ms. Smith, Toni Atkins is the City Councilmember representing Hillcrest. Kindly leave my councilmember alone so he can focus on real problems.

Problem ” what problem?
Thirteen drunk drivers were arrested in a four-hour period at one checkpoint in PB on Friday, Dec. 15. Our cops were so swamped with drinking drivers they had to close the checkpoint early.
So, I ask you, do you think PB has a drunk driving problem? Nah, there must be more drunk drivers out there somewhere! Surely, there must be.
