I saw the March 17 article “Numbers in on independent La Jolla,” (Page 1) regarding Independent La Jolla. I must reserve final opinion until I’ve had a chance to review the Independent Financial Analysis (IFA). However, the 2005 IFA was seriously flawed, especially regarding expenses associated with public works and infrastructure. Having spent much of my career on public works projects, I believe the costs are unrealistically low, especially regarding street and road maintenance. Another thing is that the Independent La Jolla website is woefully out of date. The listed phone number has been disconnected, the documents supporting their position are not current, and there are no meeting announcements or other useful information. How can these people run a city, if they can’t even run their own website? Given more information, I’ll be able to provide specifics regarding my opinion. So far, however, I’m not inclined to agree with Independent La Jolla. — Dale S. Duffala lives in Bird Rock.
