La Jolla High School runners Nihal Kayali (from left), Christie Richmond, Jessica Armstrong and Tess Plant-Thomas celebrate winning the varsity distance medley at the April 19 Mustang Relay Invitational at Otay Ranch High School.
Kayali ran the 1600, Richmond the 400, Armstrong the 1200 and Plant-Thomas the 800 meters, in the process breaking a school record that had stood since 1990.
The Lady Vikings kept a blistering pace despite the fact that the second-place team was almost 30 seconds behind.
