Simply call them the champs.
The La Jolla High boys volleyball team netted the CIF Division III title last Wednesday evening with a 25-17, 21-25, 26-24, 25-21 victory over Ramona. The win followed La Jolla’s Western League crown.
Having won fewer than 10 games only two seasons ago, the Vikings captured 27 victories along the way this spring for head coach Dave Jones, with this one being the biggest.
Ramona got to the title match with a win over second-seeded Cathedral Catholic, but it was not able to overcome La Jolla’s determination on this night.
The Vikings were led by senior Matt Jones, who paced the team with 22 kills, and junior Tyler Heap with 41 assists.
La Jolla, which opened CIF play with a win over University City High, advanced to the championship game with a 25-14, 25-17, 18-25, 24-26, 15-8 win over Mar Vista in the semifinals.
In the semifinal contest, Heap paced the Vikings with 39 assists.
