La Jolla High and La Jolla Country Day School recorded victories on the baseball diamond in the last week.
La Jolla (9-4-1) captured two out of three games last week as the Vikings prepare to enter Western League play.
The Vikings beat Crawford 6-0 behind the strong pitching of Julian Velazco and Sam Salom.
Trent Jemmett had two hits and an RBI, and Stephen Foster had a pinch-hit two-run single to ice the game for La Jolla.
Patrick Christensen (4-1) had another dominating pitching performance as he held Coronado to one unearned run in a 3-1 victory.
Christensen allowed only three hits and struck out seven. Jemmett was 2-for-3 at the plate and Jimmy Filter drove in two runs for La Jolla, as it qualified for the City Conference Tournament semifinals.
La Jolla took on rival Mission Bay in the tournament semifinal, dropping an exciting 7-6 decision.
Wyatt Hoff pitched well but took the loss for La Jolla. Hoff was also 3-for-4 at the plate (one RBI), while Jemmett added three hits and an RBI.
“We had a great tournament over the past two weeks, and we played well today even though we didn’t get the victory,” La Jolla High head coach Gary Frank commented. “We beat two of the top-ranked teams in the county, and almost beat another one today. If we can continue to play well, and improve like we’ve been doing, I’m sure we’ll finish towards the top of the Western League again this year.”
La Jolla Country Day School (9-6) returned from spring break with a 3-1 victory over San Dieguito Academy on Monday afternoon.
JT Kelley got the victory on the mound, with Greg Wisenberg picking up a save.
The Bishop’s School returns to action this Friday afternoon when it hosts La Jolla Country Day School at 4 p.m.
