
Several scholastic cross-country teams have been racing to victory.
At The Bishop’s School, the Knight took 23 athletes to Hawaii to compete in the eighth annual Iolani High School XC meet at Kualoa Ranch.
Sophomore Elizabeth Schulze finished fourth for the girls varsity race, posting a 19:48 for the 3-mile course, while junior Andy Morgosh finished the 3.0 boys varsity race in 18:08 and finished 18th.
The girls varsity finished sixth as a team and the boys 12th against bigger California schools like Carlmont, Castro Valley and Cerritos, and the top Oahu teams (Kamehameha, Iolani and Punahou).
At La Jolla High, the Vikings did well at the recent Dana Hills Invitational
“It’s still early, but I see them improving every week, now that we have had a month of solid training,” La Jolla High boys head coach Hal Goforth noted.
In the senior race of Division II, Jacob Galvan ran well, with a 17:41.
La Jolla’s junior boys team placed second of nine teams in Division III. Trevor Dorne was third overall (16:30) and Jonathan Westman was fifth (16:33), Angel Mendoza 17th (17:30), Brendan Schwarz 36th (18:14) and Jimmy Ready 83rd (20:45) to give the Vikings 77 points.
La Jolla’s sophomore boys team placed first out of nine teams in Division III, led by Thamine Dalichaouch in 17th place (17:30), Spenser May 20th (17:50), Bryant Hamershaimb 21st (17:52), Levi Ramos 24th (18:04) and Dylan Colburn 30th (18:13).
In the freshmen boys race, Mike Conroy placed second overall with an excellent time of 17:33, Andrew Jaye was 21st with 18:52 and Jack Latta 30th in 19:24.
On the girls side, La Jolla finished first in the junior/senior race. The Lady Vikings were paced by Margot Hedlin (second, 18:37), Maya Gamble (fourth, 19:37) and Lily Howard (fifth, 19:38).
In the frosh/soph race, La Jolla again finished first, with the Lady Vikings led by Courtney Avvampato (third, 10:05), Tess Plant-Thomas (fourth, 19:17), Meagan Bautista (seventh, 19:32) and Jenine Mejares (16th, 20:28).
