The Grossmont Union High School District (GUHSD) Governing Board will soon appoint four community leaders to vacant positions on the District’s Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC).
Three vacancies are in the category of “Community Member at Large” and one vacancy is in the category of “Parent or Guardian of a Child Enrolled in the District.” GUHSD is encouraging interested East County citizens to apply.
In explaining the CBOC’s role, 2022 CBOC Chair Randall Sanner said the “CBOC provides an independent examination of District bond project planning and spending to afford the taxpayers and community at large validation that funds are being spent as intended and designed.”
The CBOC consists of 11 volunteer members advising the GUHSD Governing Board and its community. The CBOC reviews planning documents and financial reports, and they also visit construction sites and completed projects to ensure that project work is consistent with reported expenditures.
The oversight committee – which is required per the provisions of the voter-approved Proposition U and Measure BB ballot measures – includes GUHSD parents and guardians, members of the East County community, professionals, and retired individuals. Former members of the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee include El Cajon Mayor Bill Wells, past President of Cuyamaca College Dr. Mark Zacovic, and multiple other East County elected officials.
“We promised East County voters that we’d build safe, modern high schools, that we’d do so with transparency, and that we’d always be accountable to them,” said GUHSD Governing Board President Robert Shield. “The community leaders who are appointed to fill these vacancies will help ensure that GUHSD delivers on that promise, so they’ll be performing a vital community service,” continued Shield.
CBOC applicants must be 18 years of age, not be employed with or contracted by GUHSD, and be able to attend evening meetings eight times per year.
Once appointed, members serve a two-year term. Applications will be accepted through June 2.
Application forms can be obtained via the District website at guhsd.net/updates or from the GUHSD District Office located at 1100 Murray Drive in El Cajon.
