Two servers at Waterbar were rushed to the hospital with severe injuries after they were hit by a car crossing Mission Boulevard and Thomas Avenue.
Danny, Rema, and Brianna entered a crosswalk around 9:30 p.m. on Jan. 20 when an SUV struck Danny and Rema. Danny needed hip surgery and both of his legs are in braces, and Rema suffered a head injury and broke her knee. Though they were released from the hospital, they won’t be able to work for some time.
“I just remember looking to my right and just seeing lights coming so fast and the only thing I had time to do was say, ‘Oh my God,’” Brianna told NBC 7. “Just so many cars go faster than 35 here and you can tell.”
“I just remember hearing the car hit them and the next thing I knew, they were 20 feet from me and both lying on the ground.”
Waterbar started a GoFundMe page to help raise money for their co-workers along with collecting tip money. The campaign has raised over $9,000 of its $10,000 goal in 15 days to help them get by while they’re recovering.
