Katie Austin, 14, who started playing in the Peninsula Youth Softball Association nine years ago, threw out the first pitch of the PYSA season at Robb Field on Saturday, Feb. 11. She received that honor because of her Girl Scout Silver Project – installing 16 bat holders at eight Robb Field softball diamonds – which was a community service effort for PYSA. She met with Whitney Wilkinson, a PYSA board member and head coach at High Tech High, and with his guidance, built and installed the bat holders. Austin currently plays on the PYSA travel team Fearless. (Above) Austin installs one of the bat holders with her mom, Sharon Henry.
