The San Diego Floral Association’s Historic Garden Tour 2010 will celebrate Kensington’s 100th Anniversary, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can view six gardens within walking distance of each other in the Kensington neighborhood. Three of the homes are Richard Requa designs with garden landscapes by Milton Sessions. The tour, which is $15 in advance or $20 the day of the event, will begin at the corner of Marlborough Drive and Adams Avenue. Advance tickets can be purchased in Uptown at Mission Hills Nursery, 1525 Ft. Stockton Dr., or at either Walter Andersen Nursery location. A wine and hors d’oeuvres reception will follow the tour at the French Garden Shoppe, 2307 India St., Little Italy.
The San Diego Floral Association is a 103-year-old non-profit organization located in the Prado Building in Balboa Park. Kate Sessions was one of the founding members. The association’s mission is to educate county residents about successful gardening through lectures, classes, tours, “California Garden” magazine and a 3100-volume library in the Prado.
