The getaway driver in the March robbery of three UCSD students has been released from jail after undergoing a prison study at a women’s penitentiary. Reynisha Ann Bransford, 24, of San Diego, was given credit for serving 469 days in custody and was placed on four years’ probation by San Diego Superior Court Judge Timothy Walsh. Bransford had no prior record, but her boyfriend, Brian Quinn Coats, 23, had a prior vandalism conviction, and Walsh sentenced him to two years and eight months in prison in June. Both pleaded guilty to three robberies of the students, whose cell phones and wallets were taken in Fashion Valley on March 6. Bransford and Coats also pleaded guilty to stealing a purse from a woman in a grocery store parking lot and an attempted robbery of a man that same night. Bransford told the judge she saw violence in a women’s prison in Chowchilla during the 90-day study and that this made an impression upon her. Walsh determined she should get credit for time served, and she was released from jail Oct. 27. Deputy District Attorney Jim Koerber said most of the stolen property was recovered by police. He said Coats held a replica of a gun to the victims, who thought the gun was real. Walsh fined Bransford $1,763 and ordered she have no contact with Coats or the victims.
