PACIFIC BEACH — Polling across San Diego opened at 7 a.m. today, and polling locations will be heating up throughout the day as the National Weather Service predicts a high of nearly 86 degrees at the coast. Despite the anticipated high temperatures, polling volunteers were in high spirits this morning at the Pacific Beach Recreation Center, 1405 Diamond St. Volunteers said there has been a steady flow of voters since the recreation center opened its doors this morning. “It’s what I anticipated,” said Alec De Ryckere, polling volunteer and Point Loma High School senior. He added that so far, the rushes consist of four people voting at once. At its slowest, there is one voter casting a ballot approximately every five minutes. Jean Powell, Pacific Beach resident, is in charge of the precinct. This is the third election for which she has volunteered. After Powell retired, she decided she wanted to volunteer by participating in something patriotic, she said. The polls are open until 8 p.m.
