Dougie’s seventh End of Summer Run/Walk that benefits the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism returns Sunday, Aug. 27, with a 4-mile trek from La Jolla to Pacific Beach.
The run starts at Cendio, 909 Prospect St., at 7:30 a.m. and ends at Gringo’s Cocina Y Cantina, 4474 Mission Blvd. The first place male and female runners will receive $500, but all participants will be greeted with live music, food and a beer garden.
According to event coordinator Kathy Loper, the former San Diego Charger and his wife Laurie created the event to help families with autistic children and named the foundation after their son who also suffers from the developmental disorder.
There will be street closures at southbound Mission Boulevard from Garnet to Turquoise. Drivers will still be able to travel northbound on Mission Boulevard. Police will reroute people over Turquoise and continue on Cass Street.
“It’s a great fast course, been going on for seven years,” Loper said. “It’s a great way to do a summer run.”
The event is still open and interested participants may register online at www.kathyloper
