Brianna Drost, from the San Diego State Police Department, introduced Corporal Mark Peterson, the new community resource officer for SDSUPD. Following a six-week effort by SDSUPD, the negative activity at Adobe Falls has been greatly reduced. Corporal Peterson provided his email, [email protected], and his phone number, 619-594-1447. Do not hesitate to contact him if you have an SDSU police-related matter on or off campus.
Ms. Drost also reported on the success of the clean up at Adobe Falls on Aug. 30. Thirty-three people participated and 34 bags of trash were collected, including a 50-gallon trash bag full of empty spray paint cans.
Elected officials reports
Report from Anthony George on behalf of Mayor Kevin Faulconer:
- Climate Action Plan: Faulconer released a draft of the plan on Sept. 30. The Mayor brought together business and environmental leaders to help develop the plan.
- City’s New Website: The city will soon have a new website soon that will be smartphone friendly.
- Mayor Faulconer announced that the Development Services Department will provide online access to data and the permitting process.
- There were talks about San Diego creating its own ordinance to ban plastic bags in San Diego, but the mayor felt it was better to wait to see what happens with a separate statewide effort first.
- 2015 Balboa Centennial: Faulconer, Council President Todd Gloria, and several organizations with ties to Balboa Park have come together to create a 2015 Balboa Park Centennial that elevates, celebrates, and promotes the park. There will be a new website and events that promote the park and its history.
- Water Conservation: The mayor recommended the city move to “Drought Alert level 2” status starting Nov. 1. Odd-numbered homes can water on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Even-numbered homes can water on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays. The mayor’s office also asked that watering be limited to seven minutes a day.

Report from Ryley Webb on behalf of Councilmember Scott Sherman
- On Sept. 20, Sherman’s office partnered with I Love a Clean San Diego for their annual Creek to Bay cleanup. Their site was Lake Murray and over 100 volunteers joined to clean up trash in and around the lake.
- On Aug. 23, Sherman’s office held the Adobe Falls cleanup. Thanks to SDSU and their team, we had a great cleanup with many volunteers.

- Gov. Jerry Brown signed 11 bills authored or co-authored by Block.
- Senator Block is very proud of the bill allowing community colleges to offer four-year degrees.
- SB 911 is a residential care bill for the elderly and requires additional training for staff.
- The governor also signed a bill that greatly reduces the amount of time it takes to test and report the results when water pollution is suspected.

- Jay Wilson reported for Community Relations Police Officer, Adam McElroy. Crime has remained very low in our community. If you need to reach Officer McElroy, his email address is [email protected] and his office phone is 858-495-7971.
- Jay also reported that the three dead palm trees that were at the top of Navajo Canyon at the intersection of College Avenue/Waring Road and Navajo Road have been removed. A big thank you to Sr. Ranger Jason Allen who oversees the open space canyons for the Park and Recreation Department’s Open Space Division.
- Allied Gardens celebrated their 60th anniversary on Oct. 18. A big thank you to Brian Caster of Caster Family Enterprises and A-1 Storage for donating the storage space for the Allied Gardens History Booth for many years.
- There was a discussion regarding the undergrounding of utilities in Del Cerro.
- Assemblymember Shirley Weber has been invited to speak at our next meeting scheduled on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El.
