The Pacific Beach Town Council and the San Diego Coastal Coalition are sponsoring the city attorney candidates’ forum at Pacific Beach Middle School 6 p.m. Thursday, May 12. Participants will be Gil Cabrera, Rafael Castella, Mara Elliott, and Brian Pease. Robert Hickey is unavailable to participate but has accepted an invitation to attend a future PBTC general meeting.
The coastal communities present unique challenges and issues for the next city attorney. Many of the issues are on-going and have not been addressed to PBTC’s satisfaction by the current city attorney. As a community, PB is focused on the importance of electing a strong and effective city attorney.
The evening will have a town hall format with each candidate presenting their background in three minutes, followed by Q&A, with questions submitted in advance by the community. Each candidate will have one minute to answer the question, and each candidate will have two minutes for closing remarks.
Topics of particular interest in the coastal community include, but are not limited to, short-term vacation rentals and enforcement of the existing city ordinances, DecoBike installations, SDPD crime statistics and causes of the increased crime rate, and homelessness issues.
Candidate questions may be submitted to [email protected]. Begin by stating the subject, followed by your question. No “statements” please.
