ROMAN DE SALVO’S “MCCAIRN” MURAL INSTALLED BY MURALS OF LA JOLLA
A mural by Roman de Salvo’s mural is now located above a BMW repair shop on La Jolla Boulevard in the Bird Rock. The mural, titled “McCairn,” is a juxtaposition of antiquity and modernity perched above the building on a two-sided site that is reminiscent of a billboard surface. “McCairn” playfully recalls the original commercial purpose of such a sign with the iconic double arches of the McDonald’s logo re-imagined through carefully stacked stones.
Murals of La Jolla, a project of the Athenaeum, demonstrates that commissioning artists to create works for public spaces brings energy and vitality to a community. For more information, visit www.ljathenaeum.org o www.muralsoflajolla.com.
