A family was observing the holiday lights located on the south side of 4700 Newport Ave., from the north side of the street about 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 17. The victim, a 7-year-old boy, left a place of safety and stepped from the north curb into the street. The victim was struck by a 55-year-old male, driving his 2006 gray Lexus westbound at the 4700 block of Newport Avenue. The victim sustained a serious injury to his left leg and was transported to a local hospital by medics. No DUI is suspected. Traffic Division responded and are investigating the collision.
