Just when will The Bishop’s School football team lose its next game? Opponents are hoping sooner than later.
Bishop’s raised its record to 7-0 (1-0 league) last weekend with a 42-7 crushing of Horizon.
The Knights rushed for 334 yards on the night. QB Tim Costello led the Knight option attack with nine carries for 138 yards and four TDs. Fullback Michael Strauss had 18 carries for 101 yards and one TD, and tailback Jacob Kelly had 12 carries for 78 yards and one TD.
Opening the holes for the Bishop’s runners were Austin Rutherford, Rey Feliz, Hector Felix, Alex Carrillo, Zach Frantz, Mike D. Jensen, Saron Hood, Micah Seau and Mike P. Jensen.
The Bishop’s defense held the Panthers to seven points as Nicky Cox and Mike Eribez each had an interception. Also leading the defense were Frantz, Felix, Feliz, Seau, Mike P. Jensen and Mike D. Jensen, Hood, Alex Carrillo, Michael Strauss and Will Peck.
“I’m extremely proud of the way our team came out to play tonight,” Bishop’s head coach Mike David said. “Our biggest challenge is certainly ahead of us Friday night against Christian High School of El Cajon.
“They should be ranked in the top five in the county. It wouldn’t surprise me if they challenge for a state bowl bid. I don’t see any weaknesses on their team.”
Bishop’s was scheduled to travel to Christian High School of El Cajon (6-1, 1-0 in league play ) on Friday for a 7 p.m. meeting, but the game was cancelled due to the wirldfires.
Elsewhere, La Jolla Country Day’s line dominated on both sides of the ball in leading the Torreys to an easy 55-7 victory over Escondido Charter.
Andy Altman, Anthony Barkett, Indie Lavarias, Gabe Fox, Junior Togiaso, Doug Rogers, Ben Kaufman and Andrew Hill pushed Charter’s physically large linemen all over the field. LJCD (4-3, 2-0) led 42-0 at the half.
With his line opening holes, QB Derek Hatfield ran for 120 yards and three touchdowns on 15 carries. Hatfield also scored three TDs through the air, going 9-for-11 passing for 138 yards.
John Hansbrough, Sammy Morris and Connor Grooms hauled in scores.
JV QB Rubin Pena played the fourth quarter and went 4-for-5 for 27 yards and an eight-yard TD to Kees Thompson.
The LJCD defense was led by inside linebackers Montell Allen and Cody Maxwell. Allen racked up 14 tackles and Maxwell notched 11.
LJCD was scheduled to travel to Calipatria on Friday night, but the game was cancelled due to the wirldfires.
In junior varsity action, LJCD scored a 24-21 victory.
Finally, University City High captured its third victory of the season in rolling past Clairemont 42-9 last Friday.
Travis Parkyn, Alex Scarlett and Kevin Kennedy each scored a pair of TDs for the Centurions.
UC (3-4, 1-1) was scheduled to host Kearny Friday afternoon, but the game was cancelled due to the wirldfires.
