I would like to express my extreme opposition to the beach restroom closures. We all know the city is trying to save money, but this is absolutely ridiculous. We need the tourism business to help our communities. The closures put a huge burden on the already over-taxed small businesses along our beaches. It also causes public urination, which is a health hazard and disgusting. I have been an Ocean Beach and Point Loma resident for over 42 years. I believe in supporting our local businesses and I used to enjoy walking to the post office or library and then over to the antique shops and restuarants on Newport Avenue. Recently, I walked between the library and the commercial building next to the post office. The stench of urine was overpowering! I would hate to rent an office on that passageway. I am also an avid swimmer and frequently swim on my way home from work. There are now no bathrooms at all between towers 3 and 4. I heard they won’t be finished for a year! The bathrooms at Tower 1 have been poorly maintained for years. When will this city realize that we pay our taxes so that our streets and amenities will be taken care of? The politicians think that money is for their use — plenty of benefits, big salaries, etc., while the infrastructure crumbles. It’s disgraceful and an insult to the taxpayers!
