One local brewery has found a simple way to blend the great outdoors with craft beer that tastes like it was just tapped – even when you’re nowhere near a brewery. With its new, state-of-the-art machine, Bay City Brewing Co. now offers crowlers – the latest way to enjoy its craft creations and special releases on the go.
“Up until recently, people could only indulge in Bay City Brewing in our tasting room, at a local bar or from a growler,” says Ben DuBois, co-owner of Bay City Brewing. “As a portable and environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional glass growlers, crowlers empower craft beer lovers to enjoy the many adventures San Diego has to offer without sacrificing the freshness of a locally made craft beer. Now, you can take the tasting room with you.”
According to DuBois, the addition of a crowler to its lineup of beer accessories marks a major milestone for the brewery whose beers are not yet available for sale in bottles or cans. The easy-to-use machine seals beer on tap inside a 32-ounce aluminum can, preventing any light or oxygen from disrupting the flavor. The crowler canning equipment marks the latest addition to Bay City Brewing’s 6,300 square-foot space.
As the fourth addition to the Bay City Brewing Co. hazy train, Haze Against the Machine, uses a Conan yeast strain that produces a style of hazy beer known as a known as New England IPA. With a 6.6 percent alcohol by volume, this new brew blends lime and peach flavors with the citrus and tropical fruit flavors found in Galaxy hops.
Known informally as the “I-saw-you-from-the-freeway” brewery, Bay City Brewing Co. has found its home off Hancock Street in an industrial nook of Point Loma. The two-year-old brewery invites all to its indoor-outdoor tasting room to try any of its custom crafts on tap, now available in cans to-go, Monday through Sunday.
