Even though summers tend to fly by rather quickly, there is plenty going on with Albion Soccer in Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach.
On the professional level, ASC, which finished first in the NPSL Southwest Conference, dropped a tough 3-1 decision to Orange County FC at Mission Bay High School on July 7. This was the opening post-season match as both teams set out in pursuit of the NPSL National Championship. It was the third meeting this season between to the two nearby rivals, with Orange County FC capturing all three matches.
Tied at 0-0 at intermission, Amani Walker got the home team on the board first in the second half, making it 1-0 ASC. Unfortunately, it would be Orange County FC tallying the next three goals en route to the victory.
Despite the loss, the locals have qualified for the 2019 U.S. Open Cup.
ASC will host an elite summer soccer camp July 23-26 with youth players from all clubs welcome. Cost to attend the camp, under director Billy Garton, is $250. The camp (ages 7-15) runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Robb Field in Ocean Beach.
That cost includes lunch and a T-shirt. The four-day event will offer specialized goalkeeper training within camp. Those interested may get more information at albionsoccer.org.
