A judge has issued an arrest warrant for an alleged drunk driver who failed to show up in court after being charged with misdemeanor hit and run and reckless driving in Ocean Beach on the Memorial Day weekend.
Jacob Souchak, 36, was arrested May 28 and he did show up for his arraignment on June 1 in San Diego Superior Court. He had been free on $2,500 bond, but he did not show up in court again for two court dates later in June.
Souchak was driving a gold Chevrolet Impala near the Ocean Beach Pier when he turned down the Boardwalk and knocked down a handicapped parking sign. People quickly got out of the way and no one was injured.
The misdemeanor charges say Souchak was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol in 2011 and 2006 in Pennsylvania. Court records say he had no local address and was only in San Diego a few days before the incident occurred.
Judge Maureen Callahan ruled Souchak forfeited his bail money by not appearing in court.
