The University City schools foundation, EdUCate, will hold the 14th annual Taste of the Triangle Nov. 16 at Birch Aquarium, 2300 Expedition Way. The evening will feature a silent auction, food and drinks, and will offer additional childcare for parents with young children.
This year, EdUCate decided to move the fund-raiser from its midweek timeslot to a Friday at the aquarium, said taste chair Brook Seerick.
The aquarium will open its doors to all attendees, who can browse the undersea atmosphere.
The foundation also teamed up with Standley Park and Recreation Center to bring the kids their own night, called “Kids Night Out: Taste Edition.” Kids Night Out is $10 extra for the night and includes pizza, crafts, snacks, games and a movie for children ages 4 to 10, said Crunchy
Beacom, media representative for Taste of the Triangle.
While the kids enjoy their night out, parents will sample dishes from many restaurants at Birch Aquarium. Included in the ticket price, attendees will have access to the aquarium, food and a drink ticket. There will be a VIP reception before the event, at 6 p.m., during which Dr. Irwin Jacobs will speak. Anyone who donates at least $250 will receive an invitation to the VIP reception.
“All the proceeds go to the EdUCate foundation that provides supplemental resources for the teachers,” Seerick said.
EdUCate is unique because the foundation, which has been around for more than 14 years and has raised in excess of $750,000, contributes to all five University City public schools. Many foundations focus on one individual school. The proceeds contribute funding to the areas of literacy, math science, technology and arts, mostly through teacher-submitted grants.
This year’s featured restaurants include: Barolo Ristorante Italiano, Blue Coral Seafood & Spirits, Cozymel’s Mexican Grill, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar, French Gourmet, Harry’s Bar and American Grill, Infusions of Tea, Islands, Jack’s La Jolla, Kikuya Sushi, La Jolla Brew House, Leucadia Pizza, Lorna’s Italian Kitchen, The Melting Pot, Pick Up Stix and Whole Foods Market, La Jolla.
Tickets are $50 in advance or $60 at the door. For more information visit the website, www.uc-educate.org, or e-mail [email protected].
