La Jolla High School’s annual fund-raiser and back-to-school event, Blast Off, celebrates Spirit Night on Friday, Sept. 14, with home JV and varsity football games.
The evening will be filled with excitement as each class competes for the “spirit award” by coming dressed in their class color and showing the rest of the school who has the most spirit.
Last year’s inaugural spirit competition was a huge success.
“Students were very creative in their face painting, T-shirt designs and signs, as they joined with their classmates to compete for the award,” said Gabrielle Goodman, co-chair of Blast Off.”Being the first event of this sort, it helped unite the students and gave them something to look forward to, especially since it includes watching the Vikings play.”
Similar to last year, prizes donated from local merchants and restaurants will be awarded throughout Blast Off, and a $100 award will be given to the class compiling the most points in the spirit competition. The spirit award will be presented during halftime by Principal Dana Shelburne.
Class colors are black (senior), red (junior), white (sophomore) and gray (freshman).
The Vikings take on University City High with the JV game at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 7 p.m. There will be Mexican food, nachos, ice cream from Baskin Robbins, snacks, soda and water and a full coffee cart. Proceeds from the event benefit the PTA.
Parents, grandparents, friends and family are invited to attend.
