The NISA Independent Cup Southern California Region Final will see Albion San Diego face off with Capo FC at JSerra Stadium in San Juan Capistrano on Sunday, July 24. This will be the first competitive match for the team, led by head coach Ziggy Korytoski, since their 0-0 draw versus LA Force on July 2.
Capo FC earned its trip to the final thanks to a 1-0 victory over AFC South Bay on July 16 courtesy of a first half goal by forward Parker Scalzo. The match will also feature a familiar face with former ASC SD player Wilton Quintero taking the pitch in the midfield but now as a member of Capo FC.
“Wilton (Quintero) came in with ASC San Diego right before I left for Guatemala,” said Korytoski. “He is a good player and a great young man. So happy to see him continuing on with the game and he deserves credit for all the successes that come his way as he sacrificed and worked extremely hard at his craft.”
Quintero made an impact right from the start when he joined ASC SD in early 2020 dishing out an assist in the team’s 2-1 victory during the NPSL season opener against AS Los Angeles. The season was ultimately cut short after only a few weeks due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic with Quintero joining Capo FC during the summer of 2021.
“He’s a great addition to our program, great player, always positive, hardworking, and demonstrates good leadership,” said Capo FC president and club director Peter Carey.
Capo FC currently sits in first place of the NISA Nation Southwest Region standings while Albion San Diego holds the second spot in the NISA West Division standings. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on albionsandiego.com.
