The National Independent Soccer Association (NISA) released its 2023 regular season schedule on Wednesday with Albion San Diego opening up against the defending champion Michigan Star at Canyon Crest Academy Stadium on April 9 in a rematch of last year’s championship game.
This season will see Albion play a total of 24 games with 14 at home and 10 away – not counting the Lamar Hunt U.S Open Cup matches the team will be competing in this year.
Albion San Diego will follow up the season opener with another home game versus Chattanooga FC, a team that features the likes of forward Markus Naglestad, who won the NISA Golden Boot award last season, plus recently acquired ex- Cal United goalkeeper Jean Antoine.
Albion San Diego will also face off against West Coast rival LA Force four times three of which will be played at Championship Stadium in Irvine and one at Canyon Crest Academy on July 8. Club de Lyon FC, Savannah Clovers FC, and Gold Star FC Detroit are the three new clubs forming part of the nine-team single table competition for 2023 all of which will face off with Albion San Diego in May.
The notable exception for this regular season is the absence of 2022 top-seeded Cal United Strikers, which is expected to make a return in 2024. Albion closes out the season with back to back road games on Oct. 4 versus the Maryland Bobcats, and Oct 7 against Flower City Union.
