Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori, first female presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church, leads an April 6 procession outside St. James by-the-Sea, 743 Prospect St.
Area Episcopal churches greeted the bishop with their church banners before she preached at St. James as part of her weekend visit to San Diego.
Bishop Katharine is a biologist and oceanographer, aviator, author and scholar who is spiritual leader to more than 2.4 million church members in 16 countries and 110 dioceses.
She is married and has a daughter.
