Dig Pink is an opportunity for the Mission Bay High School girls’ volleyball program to contribute to and raise money for the Side-Out Foundation, which supports metastatic breast cancer awareness, research, and treatment. Each year, the team dedicates one game, aka Dig Pink, to raising money for the Side-Out Foundation. This year, the Dig Pink game is 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 11, vs. Coronado at MBHS.
Their fundraising goal for this year is $2,500. Spectators at the game have the opportunity to give flat donations, but also to pledge a certain amount of money per dig made by either team. Typically, upwards of 40 digs are made per game. However, a large portion of donations come from the online donation link https://giving.side-out.org/campaigns/18870.
“This cause is especially important to us at Mission Bay because many of us have had family or friends who have overcome or who we’ve lost to breast cancer,” said Annika Wester, a junior on the Mission Bay varsity volleyball team. “In fact, our coach Barbara Birnbaum is a two-time breast cancer survivor. Dig Pink allows us to support an organization that makes a difference in the lives of those affected by metastatic breast cancer, and infuse a little bit of hope into the cause.”
