The local scholastic basketball scene has several teams sporting strong records heading into play this week.
On the girls side, The Bishop’s School entered action this week at 14-5.
Bishop’s scored a 70-54 victory over Elko (Nev.) in the first round of the Bishop Gorman Classic in Nevada on Saturday.
The Lady Knights had four players in double figures, with Gizelle Studevant leading the way with 21 points. Inga Orekhova (16), Elaina White (13) and Bianca Padilla (11) also had strong games.
In action last week, Bishop’s scored a 73-61 victory over Canyon Crest Academy and fell to La Jolla Country Day School, 51-47.
La Jolla Country Day School saw its record fall to 13-4 with a 56-52 loss to Narbonne (Calif.) last Saturday.
Finally, La Jolla High scored a pair of wins last week to raise its record to 6-11. The Lady Vikings topped Lincoln 38-37 and Mission Bay 61-26.
Valerie Nawahine led La Jolla in the win over Lincoln with 18 points. Nawahine and Sandra Harpster each had 13 points in the victory over Mission Bay, with Bianca Mitchell adding 10.
On the boys side, Bishop’s ran its record to 14-5 with a 78-47 victory over Canyon Crest Academy.
Jywrell Wilson led the way for the Knights with 21 points, with Malik Love and David Stotelmeyre adding 20 and 15 points, respectively.
Bishop’s also posted a 66-44 victory over La Jolla Country Day School last week, with Wilson contributing 29 points.
La Jolla High enters action this week with a Western League record of 5-0.
The Vikings remained unbeaten last Friday evening with a 56-47 victory over Lincoln.
Finally, La Jolla Country Day School raised its record to 4-9 with a 55-50 victory at Fallbrook last Saturday.
