The La Jolla Country Day (LJCD) School girls soccer team split a pair of games in recent action, meeting archrival Bishop’s School along the way. In a 6-0 loss to The Bishop’s School, captain Aleena Young, junior Erika Shepard, sophomore Kelly Mordente and freshman Ana Cruz played particularly strong games and made Bishop’s work hard to play through the middle of the field, according to LJCD head coach Dave Jenkins. In the win over LJCD, Bishop’s was led by Francis Harvey (three goals) and Morgan Hicks and Gio Harvey (one each). LJCD rebounded and posted a 10-1 victory over San Diego Jewish Academy, as the Lady Torreys displayed great teamwork and some very nice soccer. Young (two goals) and Cruz (three goals) controlled the center of the field, while Shepard filled in for injured junior Allie Hieb at the sweeper position, anchoring the defense. Jenkins noted nice performances were turned in by Alex Levine at outside mid, and Tara Roudi and Courtney Rockwood at the forward positions. Bishop’s was also a winner in its second game of the week, topping Canyon Crest Academy 1-0. Francis Harvey got the game-winning goal for Bishop’s, helping lead the Lady Knights to a 14-2-1 record heading into play this week. “The one amazing stat at this stage of the season is that we have had 11 consecutive shutouts as a team,” Bishop’s head coach Brian Quinn said. — Editor’s note: La Jolla High did not respond prior to press time with information on its team.
