Who thought you could pig out on barbeque and help a fellow La Jollan’s cause all at the same time? Big Brothers, Big Sisters San Diego CEO and longtime La Jollan Paul Palmer is working alongside Phil’s BBQ once again this year to bring San Diegans the third annual “BIG BBQ at the Ballpark,” set to take place on Aug. 15. Last year, the event sold out and Phil’s raised $40,000 for Big Brothers, Big Sisters “Operation Bigs” — a program that serves military children who have a deployable parent and could benefit from one-to-one mentoring. This year, Phil’s BBQ is determined to reach $50,000 to support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ 50-year anniversary. “I strongly believe in the support of local families, especially military families that sacrifice so much for the greater good of our country,” said Phil Pace, owner of Phil’s BBQ. Tickets are $25 per person, and will include the following: access to a private pre-game tailgate party on the southeast side of Petco Park from 5 to 7 p.m.; a meal featuring Phil’s award winning ribs, chicken, two side dishes and a Coke beverage; and a ticket in Phil’s section for the 7:05 p.m. baseball game at PETCO Park. Tickets are on sale and can be purchased at the Phil’s BBQ locations in Point Loma or San Marcos, or online at www.sdbigs.org. All proceeds from ticket sales will directly benefit Big Brother Big Sisters Operation Bigs.
