The United States Marine Corps and San Diego Downtown News will combine a holiday party with a chance to donate items to the Toys for Tots program at The Fleetwood in East Village on Dec. 10 from 5 to 9 p.m. The Marines traditionally run the Toys for Tots program by arranging collection areas for new, unwrapped toys, and later distributing the gifts to needy children in time for the year-end holidays. Last year their effort provided toys for 56,000 children. This year, Downtown News and the Marines are joining forces to present this Toys for Tots event next Thursday at The Fleetwood, 639 J St. The Fleetwood will provide appetizers from 5 to 7 p.m. while Marani Vodka hosts vodka cocktails during the same time. The Steph Johnson band, nominated for Best Jazz Band at this year’s San Diego Music Awards, will perform live from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Guests are asked to bring a new toy valued at $10 or more to gain entrance to the event. Or make a cash donation of $10 or more to the Toys for Tots program. The U.S. Marines, wearing their famous dress blues, will be in attendance to accept all donations. Raffles will be held throughout the evening and guests can win prizes from several downtown area businesses. The event is also sponsored by FIT Athletic, sandiegoDTOWN.com and the Gaslamp Quarter Association. To attend, RSVP to [email protected] or facebook.com/ca92101.
