Rubio’s returns to private ownership On Aug. 24, Rubio’s Restaurants, Inc. closed its merger with a subsidiary of Mill Road Capital, L.P., returning the company to private ownership after more than 10 years as a public corporation. In 1999, the father-son team took their company public, which provided them with the resources to quickly expand throughout Southern California, Arizona, Colorado, Utah and Nevada. The headquarters will remain in Carlsbad under the existing management team, and Ralph Rubio will retain an ownership position and will continue his role as a member of the board of directors.
