This letter is written to recognize and praise an officer and his team in Ocean Beach. On May 19, I was a participant in a large, late-night costume party (Smurf-themed) that traveled down Newport Avenue to the beach, where we had a bonfire accompanied by loud music and fireworks.
When the officer and his team disbanded our gathering, he did so with a mannerism that was non-confrontational and respectful. He spoke politely and with good humor through a bullhorn. His appropriate performance functioned to allow the crowd of costumed partiers to disperse with dignity and without conflict.
The police deserve applause for their actions because they recognized that the situation did not warrant hostile confrontation and everyone involved was able to go home and feel good about the night’s activities. So kudos to the Ocean Beach police force for treating a bunch of fun-loving Smurfs with kindness and respect. The positive communication skills of the officer who spoke to us are much appreciated.
