Several Noticias de La Jolla Village writers fared well at the Society of Professional Journalists San Diego chapter 2012 Awards banquet on June 28. Scott Hopkins, a frequent contributor to the Noticias del pueblo, won an honorable mention, a second-place award and a first-place award for stories he has written for the Península Beacon, while Nicole Sours Larson won awards in multiple categories, including an honorable mention for her story “Talking Turkey: don’t be scared of the bird,” which appeared in the Nov. 17, 2011 Noticias del pueblo. Editor Kendra Hartmann won six awards — one honorable mention for “King of the court” (June 23, 2011), two second-place awards for “Bring home the veggies” (Jan. 27, 2011) and “City decision could close all La Jolla dispensaries” (Jan. 27, 2011) and three first-place awards for “Raising the bar” (Feb. 17, 2011), “San Diego’s new knockout” (May 12, 2011) and “How Michael Vick’s fight dogs found their way home” (Revista de mascotas de San Diego, June 2011).
