A San Diego man was charged with driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter after he lost control of his pickup truck while driving at a high rate of speed and struck a tree on the 4300 block of Lamont Street Tuesday, April 8, at 2:32 a.m.
According to police reports, Quinto Dickens, 25, was driving a Dodge Ram truck with an extended cab with six occupants, five in the cab and one lying in the bed of the truck, when he hit the tree.
According to Det. Suzi Huntington with the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division, the man riding in the bed of the truck, which is illegal, died at the scene of his injuries, and the five people riding inside the truck were transported to a hospital with numerous injuries, including a broken femur, broken back and fractured ribs.
The County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 19-year-old Nikko Maeva, a resident of San Diego.
