Bollywood film songs will fill auditorium
The Raag and Taal Academy of San Diego will host an evening of “Bollywood Film Songs, Geets and Ghazals” on Sunday, March 18 at the Neurosciences Institute.
The concert will feature two acclaimed singers from India, Padmashree Hariharan and Chandreyee, accompanied by a five-piece orchestra that will include a sarangi, tabla and harmonium.
Hariharan, who comes from a family of Carnatic vocalists, was also trained in Hindustani music. He has recorded many albums and songs for both films and television.
His 1996 album recorded with Leslie Lewis, “Colonial Cousins,” was the first music by an Indian act to be featured on “MTV Unplugged.”
The March 18 concert is at 4:30 p.m. at the Neurosciences Institute, 10640 John Jay Hopkins Drive. Tickets range from $15 to $75. For information, visit www.raagandtaalsandiego.org.
