The ceremony for the Mid-Coast Trolley groundbreaking will take place 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, Manchester Field at The Preuss School UCSD, 3750 Voigt Drive. The event will include live music, free food and beverages, including Sprinkles cupcakes and Hubert’s Lemonade, free T-shirts/drawstring backpacks/USB fans (while supplies last), and lots of family activities, including free henna, face painting, a jumpy obstacle course, Rad Hatter crafts, and plenty of other activities. (Free parking will be available to the public across the street from the event, and MTS SuperLoop Rapid stops near the school.)
The Mid-Coast project will extend San Diego Trolley service from Old Town to UCSD and University City, adding nine new stations. Construction will start this month, and service is expected to begin in 2021.
