PB?Kiwanis accepting orders for apple fundraiser An apple a day not only keeps the doctor away, but a case of apples from the Pacific Beach Kiwanis will help benefit local community groups. The PB Kiwanis are now accepting orders for the group’s annual Apple Sale fundraiser. A box of 100 premium Red Delicious or Gold Delicious apples is $40, with proceeds donated to a variety of groups. Last year’s event raised more than $11,000 for the Earl & Birdie Taylor Library, Children’s Hospital’s Miracle Mile of Quarters, Meals on Wheels, Jane Lane Kids, Community Service Agency, Pacific Beach Middle School’s Builders Club and funded three $1,000 scholarships for Mission Bay High School seniors. Deadline to order apples is Thursday, Oct. 23. If 100 apples seems like too many, Kiwanis suggest either splitting a box with friends or co-workers. To order, call Jim Moore at (858) 274-9200. The Pacific Beach Kiwanis Club meets every Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Broken Yolk, 1851 Garnet Ave. *** Special Event Committee meeting moved to Monday The Pacific Beach Special Events Committee (PBSEC) has rescheduled its monthly meeting to Monday, Oct. 20. He also volunteered as chef of the yearly Pancake Breakfast hosted by the Santa Clara Recreation Center, Crockett said. “He had a lot of really important roles,” she said. “He was a great loss [to] our community.” Wife Pam Glover has also played an important role in the lives of Mission Beach and bay residents over the years as a past member of the Mission Bay Park Committee.
