Man carjacked while unloading trunk A man parked in the Burger King parking lot at 4253 Mission Blvd. was removing items from his trunk Thursday, Nov. 6. At approximately 2:53 p.m., a man pointed a handgun at him and demanded his car keys. The victim complied and the suspect drove off in his 2005 Audi. Police described the suspect as a 5-foot 6-inch Hispanic male in his 30s wearing a blue jacket and jeans. Volunteers needed for wildlife reserve cleanup The San Diego Audubon Society, the Friends of Mission Bay Marshes and members of the UC National Reserve System are inviting the public to join them in removing invasive plants from the Kendall Frost Wildlife Reserve Saturday, Nov. 15, from 2 to 4 p.m. The event was coordinated to help restore and maintain the coastal salt marsh and the habitat for the light-footed clapper rail and Belding’s savannah sparrow. Volunteers should wear long pants and waterproof shoes or rubber boots. Tools, water and snacks will be provided. Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers will access the preserve from Campland on the Bay, 2111 Pacific Beach Drive. Parking is available outside the campground. PB Rec offers holiday camps for kids The Pacific Beach Recreation Center announced it’s holding holiday camps for kids ages 6 to 12 during the Thanksgiving and Christmas vacations. Camps will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the dates of Nov. 24 through 26, Dec. 22 through 24 and Dec. 29 through 31. Camp activities for the kids will include trips to the Plunge, Fanuel Park and Mr. Frostie’s along with arts and crafts, games and sports such as kickball and dodgeball. Space for the camps is limited to 20 kids. The deadline to sign up is Friday, Nov. 21. The cost is $80 per session or $30 for one day. Mission Bay High School is hosting an e-waste recycling event benefiting the 2008 program Saturday, Nov. 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Items accepted for recycling include computers, monitors, televisions, laptops, cell phones, DVDs, VCRs, fax machines, printers, scanners, wire and cables. Pacific Beach?Holiday Parade set for Dec. 14 The old OMBAC fire truck, the school marching bands and Santa Claus himself will be rolling down Garnet Avenue for the Pacific Beach Holiday Parade Sunday, Dec. 14, beginning at 1 p.m. The theme for this year’s parade is “Christmas in Paradise,” and space is still available to enter a float or other type of entry. Awards will be given out in a variety of categories, including best float, most creative and best band.
