Concert will pay tribute to pioneer Ike Turner
The Collective Concert Series, which serves as a benefit for the Jewish Family Services program, kicks off Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Garfield Theater on the grounds of the Lawrence Family Jewish Family Community Center, 4126 Executive Drive.
“This show is specifically an Ike Turner tribute, due to his recent passing,” said Norah Blumberg from the JZMN. “Production Company Jazmin is also a band named JZMN, whose members include former members of Ike Turner’s band the Kings of Rhythm.”
Two legendary blues musicians, Ernest Lane and Mac Johnson, headline the production, which will also feature Stephen Johnson and JZMN playing original compositions, in addition to Ike Turner compositions.
“Our goals for this particular concert are to pay respects to Ike Turner for his musical contributions and also to raise money for Jewish Family Services’ mentoring mothers program, which helps young mothers with parenting classes and resources to assist in being parents,” Blumberg said.
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. For information, call (760) 473-0795.
