PB to honor civil servants, police, lifeguards etc. Pacific Beach will have the opportunity to honor and applaud its police, lifeguards, firefighters, paramedics and park rangers at the 29th annual Police and Emergency Services Appreciation Night (PAESAN) on Sept. 9 at the North Crown Point Shores Rotary Pavilion from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The Pacific Beach Town Council (PBTC) sent ballots to the police, firefighters, lifeguards, paramedics and park rangers for them to nominate peers on a job well done, who will be awarded with a certificate and framed photo of Pacific Beach. San Diego Police Chief Bill and District 2 Councilmember will show up to celebrate the civil servants. The Old Mission Beach Athletic Club will grill the evening’s dinner with donations from the PB Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, PB Women’s Club and Discover PB. A live band will play Hawaiian music, and a raffle will be held. When residents call upon these civil servants in a time of emergency, they often don’t get the chance to say thank-you, said PBTC event chair Ruby Houck. “It’s the perfect place to say thank you for a job well done – not just for the summer moths when they’re so busy but for their work all year round,” Houck said. “You have to have dinner anyway.” Local merchants interested in donating raffle prizes or supporting PAESAN as a $100 Century Club donor or Half-Century sponsor at $50 should contact the PBTC at (858) 483-6666. Tickets for the event cost $5. Volunteers needed to restore dunes The San Diego Audubon Society and the San Diego River Park Foundation invite volunteers to help restore a portion of the coastal dunes alongside the San Diego River that is home to the threatened Nuttall’s Lotus plant, as well as a variety of migratory and resident birds.
