Pacific Beach knows how to throw a party. It also knows how to come together for a worthy cause. The Pacific Beach Town Council (PBTC) is putting both skills to good use with its seventh annual wine tasting and fundraiser, Sunday, June 29, 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Lotsa Pasta, 1762 Garnet Ave.
“Come out and sample some extraordinary local wines, enjoy live entertainment and dine on delicious hors d’oeuvres,” event chairperson and PBTC director Patrick Finucane said. “And the best part is that it all supports local youth.”
Attendees can enjoy wines from Keyways, Eagles Nest and Napa Ridge wineries as well as heavy hors d’oeuvres and delectable desserts. The classical guitar of Lynn Hieb will provide the musical backdrop for this evening of easygoing elegance.
Attendees can further indulge their taste for the finer things with a relaxing day of wellness at Buechel Chiropractic Center, a rejuvenating stay at Pacific Terrace Hotel or a gourmet cooking class at Great News! Discount Cookware and Cooking School, just a few of the prizes being offered as part of the event’s silent auction.
Or perhaps sitting down for a meal with of Police Chief William Lansdowne, Assistant Police Chief Boyd Long or Councilman Kevin Faulconer is more your style.
Three lucky bidders in the silent auction will score lunch with the local leaders. Long’s lunch companion will be picked up in a patrol car and escorted to World Famous.
Other items include Sunday brunch for four at the Catamaran Resort Hotel and one-night stays at the Pacific Terrace Inn and Crystal Pier Cottages.
Those who wish to pass on the bidding could still leave with a prize from the raffle.
The grand prize for the raffle is a beach cruiser from Pacific Coast Bicycle, 1637 Garnet Ave., complete with free lifetime tune-ups.
Other raffle items include gift certificates to Nick’s at the Beach, Cass Street Bar & Grill and Cafe Athena, along with passes for the Bahia Bell sternwheeler and a gift basket at Trader Joe’s.
“With great wine, live music, wonderful food, silent auction and raffle, it is sure to be a fun experience for all,” Finucane said. “And with all that is going on these days, this is a great chance to give a little back to the neighborhood.”
Proceeds will benefit youth programs at Pacific Beach Recreation Center and local schools.
“They really make a difference,” PBTC President Ruby Houck said.
Last year’s proceeds supported Mission Bay Little League, soccer and girls softball. Funds raised in previous years have saved the Halloween carnival at Pacific Beach Recreation Center and purchased a raft for the junior lifeguards.
Tickets are $30, available in advance through Friday at the PBTC offices, 1706 Garnet Ave., or at Lotsa Pasta the day of the event.
Because of limited seating, attendees who plan on purchasing tickets at the door are asked to RSVP by calling host committee member Rose Galliher at (858) 344-9210.
